Vision
It is Crystal Lake Friends of Gifted Education’s vision that District 47 be a place where all students with specialized academic needs are supported so we aim to funnel community wide-collaboration efforts into funding, advocating for and enriching the learning experience of EC teachers, students and their families.
Fundraise: Our efforts go directly back to D47’s gifted community to enhance the EC curriculum and experience by providing funds to purchase classroom supplies, sponsor field trips and presenters that align with gifted learning coursework and host programs to support teachers, students and their families.
Advocate: Parent advocacy is vital to ensure District 47 School Board’s continued consideration and support for gifted learners. We are thankful to past parent advocates of gifted students, that D47 has Gifted Education written into its bylaws as this is NOT common practice in the state of Illinois and we must continue advocating for the needs of our high achieving and gifted learners if there are to be such programs in the future.
Provide Programs: We aim to organize relevant, enrichment activities and connect our families to opportunities in and around the Crystal Lake area to promote personal growth and strengthen D47’s EC community.
Build Membership: Our schools are a key factor in what draws families, from all backgrounds, to settle down in Crystal Lake. Pooling our resources through an active membership base, we can be part of a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts, and utilize all that our impressive community has to offer for our gifted learners.
Value Statement/Why we do it
We believe all students should be supported with academic materials and experiences on par with their learning level to provide them with the best chance of future success and we believe in a community that understands the value of supporting students with these learning gifts. Without mandates from our government to fund gifted education, community leaders must pick up the slack if these students are to be given the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential that will positively benefit themselves and our society. Crystal Lake Friends of Gifted Education is committed to encouraging and fostering collaboration efforts between District 47 leaders in education, administration and business to provide this foundation of support and a pathway to success, benefiting all students and families with gifted learners.
